LLANDUDNO PIER PAGE

MIKE FURMSTON, OF CARLISLE, FOUND THESE OBSCURE PHOTOGRAPHS OF HIS WIFE'S FAMILY GATHERING DUST IN
A DRAWER SO DECIDED TO SEND THEM IN FOR PUBLICATION.

MIKE'S WIFE'S GRANDFATHER WAS A MAN CALLED FRED PORT WHO LIVED IN LLANDUDNO AND WAS
STATION MASTER AT PONT Y PANT STATION ON THE CONWY VALLEY BRANCH FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS.

HE HAD BEEN IN THE ROYAL NAVY BEFORE JOINING THE RAILWAY. HE WORKED HIS WAY UP AND HELD SEVERAL POSTS
AS STATION MASTER. AS WELL AS PONT Y PANT STATION HE WAS ALSO APPOINTED STATION MASTER AT LANCASTER.

HE SPENT TIME WORKING AT BIRMINGHAM AND ALSO LONDON EUSTON.

HE SPENT HIS LAST MONTHS AT CARLISLE AND DIED IN 1962.

HE RECEIVED A LONG SERVICE CLOCK FOR HIS TIME ON THE RAILWAY.

FRED PORT'S FATHER WAS CALLED HERBERT PORT WHO WORKED AS A GOODS AGENT AT LLANDUDNO AND WHEN HE
RETIRED FROM THE RAILWAY SHIPPING COMPANY HE WAS INVITED TO BECOME MASTER OF THE PIER AT LLANDUDNO - (circa 1930's).

HERBERT IS SHOWN IN MOST OF THE PHOTOS OF THE PIER BELOW.

UNFORTUNATELY NONE OF THE OTHER PIER STAFF HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED.

This first photo shows Fred Port as Station Master at Pont y Pont station.

Here is Herbert Port (right) posing with several dignitaries
on the pier.

Here is Herbert again (right) with more of his staff on the pier.

The following two shots show the pier in it's heyday and probably Herbert ( centre - with moustache) but unfortunately no identification of
any other staff member is known.

A general view of people relaxing on the pier.

The last shot shows an unidentified double - headed train and unidentified location.
