A strange coincidence took place with the towing of 46203 'Princess Margaret Rose' to and from Butlins Holiday Camp.
On
May
4th
1963
46203
was towed by Ivatt 2-6-0 "Flying Pig" No.43052 by
Junction men, over the North Wales Coast main line to
Caernarfon, Afon Wen and along the Cambrian Coast line to Penychain
which was the nearest station to Butlins camp.
It was then winched over a temporary track for static display for the
next twelve years.
In
the
mid
-
1970's
however the novelty of a static railway engine by the
sea was starting to wane and Butlins loaned 46203 to
the Midland Railway Trust at Butterley in 1975. This time 46203 was
towed along the Cambrian Coast line
by class 24 diesel No.24053 for another period of static display at
Derby until 1990 when she returned to main line running.
The unusual
coincidence mentioned above is that the Class 24 diesel that towed
46203 away from Pwllheli in 1975 No. 24053
is an anagram
of the "Flying Pig" No. 43052 that towed the 'Princess' to
Pwllheli twelve years earlier. Strange but true!
The photo below

the way to Derby on May 11th 1975.
